Directing Rescue Operations

The State Provincial Office ensures the security of the inhabitants and the proper functioning of society during normal times as well as in exceptional conditions. It provides support to the local authorities in the provision of basic rescue services and contingency planning, by means of steering, planning and financial subsidies. Contacts with the local authorities are multiple in quantity and quality, and the main areas of expertise provided are development, legal and training services.

The State Provincial Office co-ordinates contingency planning with regional and local authorities. Preparedness is assured and improved through regular drills. The State Provincial Office also maintains its own preparedness for commanding operations during major disasters and emergency situations.

Together with the Defence Forces, the State Provincial Office arranges regional civil defence courses for persons who hold key positions within contingency planning.
