The duties of the Department for Education and Culture in the State Provincial Office of Western Finland are to improve the quality of education and culture in the province of Western Finland, as well as the productiveness of the region as a part of national educational and cultural activity. The Department for Education and Culture operates as a network of teams, each concentrating on a specific task area. The Department task areas include: professional training, the evaluation of educational and cultural services, further training for educational personnel, library administration, sports and youth activities, arts management and general applications, as well as EU structural fund matters for the administrative sector of the Ministry of Education. The Department is responsible for the individual education and culture units operating at the Turku office, as well as in the regional services units in Jyväskylä, Tampere and Vaasa, and the arts administration personnel in Pori. The Department has a separate Swedish-speaking unit, which is responsible for the promotion and evaluation of the Swedish-speaking educational and cultural services in the province. |
