Safeguarding Traffic-Related Services
The successful implementation of comprehensive mass transit provision in a vast and sparsely populated region like the Province of Lapland is highly difficult. In the event that there are prerequisites for the upkeep of a traffic route within a thinly populated area, public transit can be arranged for the area, through support granted by the traffic administration.
During the last few years, an important task which has grown and increased lies in the development of traffic communications together with our collaborative partners. Among other matters, the viability of tourist traffic is vital to the prosperity of Lapland.
The traffic administration ensures that taxi services are offered in a comprehensively equal manner, both regionally and time-wise. Area-based conditions reflecting over-demand, such as during the tourist seasons, are given special attention.
Our tasks include:
- safeguard passenger traffic services within the province by means of permit-related policies as well as purchase communications-based services and planning
- grant taxi, freight and driving school permits in addition to developing cooperation with various quarters of expertise
- promote traffic safety
- nurture equal possibilities in public mobility as well as promoting competitive advantage in business life
- foster the national defence effort by taking care of the provision of electronic communications in addition to road transport under emergency conditions
- review EU projects
- look after the registration and supervision of commission agencies.
